For more than 200 years the Styrian region around the two towns of Bärnbach and Köflach has enjoyed an unparalleled reputation for glass production, marrying traditional practice with innovation. The glass factory Oberdorf was set up in Bärnbach in 1805. In 1871 the glassworks was founded in Köflach. Together they provided the cornerstones of today’s Stölzle Glass Group.
Over the last two decades, Stölzle- Oberglas, the Austrian headquarter of the Group has turned into one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of high-end packaging glass. The flagship for Healthcare & Consumer products is proud of its important role as pioneer in glass production: In the year 2002, Stölzle was the first European glass factory to manufacture in accordance to GMP guidelines. Since the summer of 2008 the Austrian plant has conformed to ISO 15378 standards. A further milestone was set by adhering to BRC/IoP standards for food packaging and obtaining the official certification in autumn 2009.
Beside these quality certifications in May 2010 Stölzle – Oberglas joined the „Leading Companies of Austria“. This renowned Austrian network has set itself the goal to spotlight economic pioneers, blue-sky thinkers and go-getters who will take the first steps and carry others along with them.
Investments in all aspects of production, quality control and logistics together with its motto “STO success is based on successful employees” have turned Stölzle into Europe’s leanest and most efficient glassworks.
Köflach currently has ten fully automatic production lines with 8, 10 and 12 section double and triple gob machines. Together they manufacture almost 1.3 billion pieces of container glass in white flint, amber and green glass each year; an impressive output of 250 tons of glass every day.
